Mercedes Benz Fashion Week presents many opportunities to style celebrities and fashion industry icons. It was a particular pleasure to style Jenna Dewan-Tatum for events during this year’s Fashion Week. Jenna is as delightful as she is beautiful! A question I am asked frequently during Fashion Week is, “How do you achieve the various styles on your celebrities?” I thought who better to use as an example of how to achieve beautiful styles than those worn by Jenna since she is a perfect model.
Volume and Texture
1. Wash your hair thoroughly with quality products such as Kerastase Shampoo & Conditioner. Condition mid-shaft to ends making certain not to apply conditioner to the roots. This will help to prevent the roots becoming soft and limp.
2. While your hair is still wet, begin by applying a dollop of Kerastase Mousse Substantive. Always apply products starting from the back of your head so you don’t accidentally weight down the hair with excess product. Gently rub the product around the palm of your hand then begin the application starting at the mid-shaft of your hair to the ends. Then apply the remaining product in your hand to the front of your head.
3. Blast your hair about 80% dry using the Salon Tech Ionic Turbo 3300 blow dryer. Complete the drying process while smoothing your hair with a round brush. Note: Since the next step requires the use of a curling iron that will further help to smooth the cuticle, it is not as crucial to have the hair perfectly smooth after drying.
4. Now we will use the 1 1/4″ Cricket Friction Free Curling Iron to begin the styling. First divide your hair into four equal sections using large clips to hold two sections in the front and two in the back. Starting with one of the two front sections, take a smaller sub-section at the hairline above the ear. The sub-section of hair should be no wider than the barrel of the curling iron. Curl the hair starting from the mid-shaft to the ends, being careful to roll away from the face. Repeat until reaching the crown of the head. After completing both front sections, proceed to the back of the head. Begin at the nape by taking a section no wider than the width of the iron. Repeat the same steps in the back as in the front.
* The reason you do not roll the iron all the way to the scalp is to create a natural flow from the scalp that gradually leads into a sexy wave from mid-shaft to the ends.
5. To enhance the texture you can apply a pea size amount of Shu Uemura Silk Mesh to the palms of your hands (remember to pay attention to amount of product being used… more is not always better).
Emulsify the product into your palms and in between your fingers. Now flip your head over and starting at the back of your head from mid-shaft to ends rake your fingers through your hair. Flip over, shake head and voila… Instant Sex Appeal!

Sleek and Smooth
1. Wash your hair with Moroccanoil Shampoo & Conditioner.
2. Begin by applying a dollop of Moroccanoil Treatment to the wet hair. Always apply products starting from the back of your head, and begin the application at the mid-shaft of your hair to the ends. Then apply the remaining product in your hand to the front of your head. This will eliminate over use of product around the face causing hair to be limp or weighed down.
3. Blast your hair about 80% dry using the Salon Tech Ionic Turbo 3300 blow dryer. Complete the drying process by smoothing your hair with a round brush. Note: Since the next step requires the use of a curling iron that will further help to smooth the cuticle, it is not as crucial to have the hair perfectly smooth after drying.
4. Begin by using your Kiss Silicone Protexion Flat Iron. working with sections no wider than the width of the plates on the iron. First divide your hair into four equal sections using large clips to hold two sections in the front and two in the back. Starting with one of the two front sections, take a smaller sub-section at the hairline above the ear. The sub-section of hair should be no wider than the width of the iron. Hold the sub-section of hair taut with one hand while using the other to place the iron close to scalp. It is important not to clamp down hard on the hair since this will not straighten the hair quicker or better, and it will cause an unsightly crease line in the hair. Using an even and fluid movement, gently glide down the hair shaft in a continuous motion until hair is released. Repeat until reaching the crown of the head. After completing both front sections, proceed to the back of the head. Begin at the nape by taking a section no wider than the width of the iron. Repeat the same steps in the back as in the front.

5. Complete finish look with a blast of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine for added shine and texture. (SerafinoSays Favorite Tip: One of the most effective methods of applying spray shine is to squirt the product directly into the air flow of the blow dryer (remove concentration nozzle from hair dryer) allowing the air flow to even disperse the spray gloss. In addition, the movement of the hair caused by the air flow will allow the spray gloss to penetrate throughout the interior of the hair so the product doesn’t weigh disproportionately on the outer layer. This will create incredible texture, shine and add a new dimension to your hair cut.
Texture, Texture, Texture
1. Shampoo with Nexxus Shampoo & Conditioner.
2. Apply a dollup of Nexxus Thermal Mousse to wet hair. Starting at the nape of the neck take a wet section of hair no wider than the diameter of your brush. SerafinoSays recommends a 1 3/4” Cricket Thermal Round brush making certain to rotate the brush away from the face. It is important to use the concentration nozzle on your blow dryer when styling because the nozzle controls the direction of the air flow enabling the air to blow directly onto the hair that is distributed around the brush.
3. Take the next section (1 3/4″) section of hair directly above the previously dried section. It is important not to combine the dry section of hair with the wet section of hair because this will result in over-drying sections of your hair resulting in frizz.
4. When the back of the hair is completely dry, begin by taking a 1 3/4″ section of hair by the ear. Repeat the same brush and blow dry techniques as in the back on both front sections of your hair.
5. To complete the look finish with a blast of Nexxus Comb Thru finishing spray to lay down any fly-aways.

Chic High Ponytail
1. Shampoo with Bed Head Style Shots Shampoo & Conditioner.
2. Apply Bedhead Control Freak to your wet hair. Blast the hair about 80% dry using the Salon Tech Ionic Turbo 3300 blow dryer. Complete the drying process by smoothing your hair with a round brush. Note: Since the next step requires the use of a flat iron that will further help to smooth the cuticle, it is not as crucial to have the hair perfectly smooth after the blow dry.
3. Use your Kiss Silicone Protextion Flat Iron to iron the hair straight and smooth. Begin by working with sections no wider than the width of the plates on the iron.
4. Brush all hair towards the crown of the head and secure with a rubber band. (SerafinoSays Favorite Tip: Look towards the ceiling when finishing your brushing and securing the rubber band. This will ensure the hair at the nape of the neck is smooth and tight.)
5. Twist your hair into a coil around the ponytail holder and secure with several bobby pins. (SerafinoSays Favorite Tip: If your bobby pins are showing, then use a hair pin to grab a few strands of hair and cover the exposed bobby pin… pay attention to detail because you never know who is looking!)
