Dean shared with David his secrets for creating Gwen Steffani’s perfect messy bun with his favorite InStyler Amazing Rotating Iron.
David: How can a woman update her look for fall – messy buns seem to be the in thing this season. How can a woman achieve this style herself?
Dean: Messy buns are great if the hair has texture first. Texture gives the hair great movement.
David: How does the InStyler factor into this?
Dean: The 3/4 inch Instyler is great for putting texture in the hair. After it is curled scoop the hair up into a bun on the top or back of the head. Spray your have with a spray shine such as Joico’s Brilliantine Spray Gloss or Aquage’s Beyond Shine to accent your color and texture.

Recently I worked on a photo shoot for grooming and styling the hair of Norman Reedus, star of AMC’s hit show Walking Dead. For those zealous Zombie fans you might know Norman as Daryl Dixon, the crossbow wielding character. I was excited for several reasons; 1) I absolutely love working with Norman, a gentleman and professional, 2) the magazine we were shooting for is one of the Gold Standard to have your name in print, (Coming Soon) 3) We were shooting in the coolest artist’s studio that was much different from the typical cavernous, sterile photo studio.
The artist behind the studio is Craig Collins. “Craig’s paintings and pastels are informed by his personal experience of having lived in Los Angeles for ten years and now in New York City. Craig uses a range of media to create intimate explorations of the relationship between his surroundings and the formation of his social identity. Having worked late hours in two of the greatest cities, he has seen everything between startling beauty and the absolute perverse. Inspired by the streets, Craig ingests the psychological and physical landscapes of the city. His compositions weave together his fascinations with the human form, facial expressions through layered portrayals of personal struggle and hardship. Craig’s work investigates the divergent energies of Los Angeles and New York City; vast and laid back with energy respectively.”
SerafinoSaysthought it would be informative, inspirational and fun to interview Craig to learn what’s behind his artistic genius….
Just imagine having to look fresh and fabulous in front of nearly 5 million people… at 7:00 AM. For me a couple terrifying expressions come to mind; Mission Improbable and Inconceivable Truth.
The hosts and guests of ABC’s Good Morning America put their fate and faith in the highly capably hands of Celebrity Hairstylist Patrick Alemi. Patrick is one of many scurrying behind the scenes concealed, but whose contribution is invaluable. Patrick is the GMA Department Head for Hair & Makeup. Each weekday morning before we hit the snooze button on our alarms, Patrick and his team of artists are on their way to a third cup of coffee while making Robin, George, Lara, Sam, Josh and dozens of daily guests & celebrities look their BEST each and every morning.
Patrick’s office, just down the hall from GMA’s main studio, bustles with people and activity throughout the morning. Live television is demanding, and unforgiving, as every moment is orchestrated down to the second. Consequently, Patrick is challenged every morning to perfectly style many of the hosts, including that morning’s guests, all within a narrow window before they are whisked away to the set and on-camera.
Patrick has enjoyed an illustrious career in television, motion pictures, stage, runway, and celebrity styling. It is unlikely you have not experienced Patrick’s brilliant styling. Just to name a few of his projects; Men In Black 3, Sweet Home Alabama, Spider-Man 3, A Beautiful Mind, or, Law and Order, Sopranos, Saturday Night Live, All My Children, The View, or, Phantom of The Opera, 42nd Street, Kiss me Kate.
Patrick is kind enough to share with SerafinoSays an insight into his morning routine, which includes a few tips-of-the-trade we can all put to good use. We look forward to seeing more of Patrick and learning from his experience as he visits SerafinoSays from time to time over the coming months.

Have you ever wondered how a model’s skin looks so radiant walking down the catwalk? SerafinoSays interviewed Bevin who was partnered with Arcona Skin Care backstage at the Lela Rose show.
Let’s hear how to create glowing runway skin:
The key to ARCONA’seffectiveness is its active ingredients and the way they are combined and processed. Cosmeceutical-grade ingredients, such as enzymes, antioxidants and amino acids, are formulated to work synergistically to deliver powerful results. These active ingredients are cold-processed at very low temperatures, in small batches, to keep them active and effective. Because cold processing is labor and time intensive, most skin care products, even the expensive ones that may begin with quality ingredients, are heatprocessed, which ultimately leaves nutrients lifeless and ineffective.
