Hair Makeover!

They weren’t singing from the same song sheet!  Who am I talking about?  Well it isn’t “who” as much as “what.”  You see, I’m talking about Danielle S’s hairstyle and her personality.  Danielle S is an active, vivacious woman who is accustom to letting her hairstyle be a refection of her bubbly personality.  Over the past year Danielle S’s life became hectic, in a good way, but nonetheless hectic enough that keeping a fashionable cut, color & style seemed secondary to most everything else on her schedule.  Consequently, Danielle S’s hair and personality were out of sync and she needed a hair makeover!

For Danielle S to once again be in harmony, SerafinoSays had to create a solution that would be expressive, yet easily manageable on a daily basis.

It seems SerafinoSays and Danielle S are on the same song sheet, because she followed our recommendation to the letter.  The result is strikingly beautiful, reveling and energetic.  All in all a reflection of Danielle S’s personality!  Equally important to the cut, color & style, it is a convenient hairstyle that fits the requirements of her lifestyle; low maintenance for a high-energy personality.

Danielle S came to SerafinoSays from a friend of a friend on Facebook.  It began with Danielle S posting her absolute frustration with her hair.  Responding to her passionate plea for help, a friend of Danielle S recommended she reach out to SerafinoSays’ and learn about our Monday Makeover.  Pheww!  We admire your persistence Danielle S in discovering SerafinoSays and your reward is a well-earned Monday Makeover.

Danielle S is a woman who appreciates the impact of a compelling hairstyle and doesn’t shy away from regular change whether its subtle and imaginative.  Sounds like a SerafinoSays kind of gal.  But this isn’t the problem that drove Danielle S to Facebook for help.  Many of us can easily relate to the root of problem; life simply got in the way.  In the span of one year Danielle S tackled a new job, in a new city, while trying to settle into a new home.  Suddenly, everything seemed to take precedence over her haircut, hairstyle, hair color… all of it.  Suddenly, her hair was no longer a reflection of her sparkling personality.  Suddenly, maintaining her hair became a burden instead of a dramatic accessory.

“Monday Makeover WOW Moment with Stacey G”

NO – these images are not digitally altered, and YES – it is the same woman in the Before and After image.  She simply looks GORGEOUS!  We still can’t get over it’s the same Stacey G from our Monday Makeover!

While our last Monday Makeover was a lesson in the efficiency of subtle change, this week’s Makeover with Stacy G shows us the impact of a refreshing new look.  Nothing melodramatic!  Nothing adventurous!  Nothing frivolous!  Simple a better overall look that is best suited to Stacey G’s lifestyle.

Although the result is dramatic, you do not need to resort to dramatic measures to achieve dramatic change.  When there are several factors contributing to the appearance of an ineffective hairstyle it is best to begin by analyzing each basic element of the hair and hairstyle.  With Stacey G, SerafinoSays began by analyzing the texture of Stacey G’s hair,  its condition (health), the environmental influence, her skin tone, product choices, styling & maintenance regimen, and equally important is considering Stacey G’s personality.  SerafinoSays then designed a solution by tackling each individual element that when tied together resulted in a dramatic change.

Therefore if you can’t decide how best to tackle an ineffective or undesirable hairstyle, don’t become frustrated.  First take a deep breath, then concentrate on fixing the little things and in the end the sum of the parts will be a breathtaking conclusion.

“Monday Makeover WOW Moment with Mindy Y.”

Wow, Wow, Wow Mindy Y not only do you look stunning, but you teach us two vital lessons:

1) Subtle can be good.  Women need to overcome the mindset that a hair makeover needs to shout in a finale of fireworks complete with dramatic flashes of color, unorthodox style, or a groundbreaking cut.

2) Subtle does not mean minimal.  It means difficult to detect.  This means a subtle change in your hairstyle can be both mysterious and captivating.

Such is the case with Mindy’s Monday Makeover.  Her overall hairstyle is comparative to her previous style with the exception of subtle changes.  These changes include:

  • Warm the base color of her hair to better compliant her skin tone, and curtail the blond highlights to accentuate movement in the hair and not be the dominate color.
  • Redirect the ends of the hair so they lead admires to her sparkling eyes and the balanced proportion of Mindy’s face.
  • Introduce movement into her hair while losing the weight with the use of seamless layers.

The result is a subtle change in style that brought about significant change in overall appearance.  Mindy’s skin tone is no longer washed-out and the delicate blond highlights are youthful.  The seamless layers eliminate the heavy dome-like shape of her haircut, leaving Mindy with a cut that easily styles without ever looking rigid.

Congratulations Mindy, you are a glowing example that it doesn’t always take a lot, to accomplish a lot.

“Monday Makeover WOW Moment with @4zsrwe”

“It just hangs there,” is how @4zsrwe described her hairstyle.  This is a common complaint from women with long layers of similar length.  Not only do long layers weight the hair down, they tend to bunch-up at the ends leaving a boxy appearance.  This was the case with @4zsrwe, as well as having overly textured bangs that clashed with her hair cut and hairstyle.

@4zsrwe is a beautiful woman blessed with gorgeous, manageable hair and facial features worth enhancing.  She reached out to SerafinoSays looking for a discernible change in her appearance (Click here for our suggestions), without being over dramatic.  It is for this reason that we recommended she soften her fringe with length, then acquire movement in her long hair with seamless layers throughout.

SerafinoSays applauds @4zsrwe for embracing change!  As a result her hairstyle went from… lacking style, to a sassy, sexy accessory.  We absolutely love staring the transformation between the before and after pictures.  We also want to give a shout-out to her hairstylist who did a masterful job adding movement and direction to her hair.

“Monday Makeover With Mindy Y.”

We can’t fib, we have been a good friend of Mindy’s for years.  As with any friend you can occasionally be confronted with the age old question; do you suppress your burning desire to share your opinion on a personal topic because your concerned about hurting their feelings or express your opinion (what can seem brutal honest) hoping it is received in the same constructive manner intended.  At SerafinoSays, we are the sort of friend that would want to learn the truth so we always lean toward being truthful.

During a delightful visit from Mindy in NYC, we thought a tactful way to suggest she needed a new hairstyle was to ask her to volunteer to be the subject of a Monday Makeover.  Fortunately Mindy jumped at the chance thinking her hairstyle already lacked pizzazz.  Mindy, we love your eyes, your smile, your clever sense of humor, your sense of style, and particularly your friendship, but we just did NOT love your hair.

Before SerafinoSays can recommend an alternative hairstyle we need to understand the personality behind our lovely Mindy.  We asked her to share some insight into her personality for everyone to read.  SerafinoSays believes everyone falls in one of three categories;

  • Whisper: This means you want a trim on your ends and keeping your color as close to your existing hair color.  You look the same as when you walked in the salon except your hair feels healthy and shiny.
  • Talker: You go back to the office and people notice your new style but it’s a style that is not too dramatic that they don’t recognize who you are.  An example could be you keep your length and add shorter layers or your sweeping fringe is now just above your eyebrows.
  • Shouter: Heads are turning when you enter the room.  You have just cut your one length hair into a pixie cut.  You walked in a blonde and you are going home a red.

“Monday Makeover WOW Moment with Jean T”

Can we get a Hubba-Hubba!  Jean T is our spirited mother of an energetic 2-year old boy, that holds down a 50+ hour/wk career, all the while hobbling around the City streets on crutches recovering from major knee surgery.  Pheww, we’re exhausted just typing about it.

Jean T was ready for a new hairstyle that “Shouts” from the tallest skyscrapers in New York that she was a confident, powerful, sexy woman successfully balancing family-career-play.  Well, I don’t know about you readers, but SerafinoSays can hear her loud and clear with this impressionable new hairstyle.

First we wanted a hairstyle that accentuated the sensual angles and rich tone of her eyes…Check!  Next we wanted a hairstyle that was low maintenance, but reacted favorably when styled with tools… Check!  Then we wanted the hairstyle to work within the texture of her hair and maintain its shape throughout its growth… Check!  Lastly, Jean T wanted her hairstyle to “Shout” with confidence and captivate a room… Check!

“Monday Makeover WOW Moment with @Ihopeyoudancealot”

Woo-Hoo!  We have been patiently waiting a few months for @ihopeudancealot’s fringe to grow out.  SerafinoSays would like to proclaim it was well worth the wait!  Holy smokes @ihopeyoudancealot your hairstyle is transformational because it introduces a fresh, contemporary, befitting appearance.  Your hairstyle is now well intergrated with the shape of you head and angles of your facial features.  The result is flattering and chic.

SerafinoSays told @ihopeyoudancealot that by adding warmth to her older blonde highlights this will complement the hazel color of her eyes, while adding a new dimension to your skin tone.  The new sweep to her fringe toward then subtly beyond her eyes is striking.  The intent behind continuing the flow of the fringe is to open up the face and balance her high cheekbones.  The new seamless layers gives her hair movement without the look of choppy layers for a more modern and sexy flow.

“Monday Makeover WOW Moments with @csmorain (Phase 1)”

SerafinoSays recommended a multi-step hair plan to @csmorain consisting of color, growth, trim and style.  Phase 1 introduced color to set the tone and announce to the world that change is in the wind.  We want to say to @csmorain, “bravo!”, we love what she has done with Phase 1.

Each of the following phases SerafinoSays mapped out for @csmorain over the one-year growth plan will address a specific stage of her growth process.  Some recommended changes will be for the purpose of style or balance, while other changes will serve to soothe the mental psyche of a long growth period.

Phase 1 serves a duel purpose of making a subtle statement while also preparing @csmorain for the exciting road ahead.  While the hair is growing one of the best ways to endure the difficult growth period is to change your color.  @csmorain loves her dark brown eyes, as do we, so we want to compliment those sultry peepers with the choice of hair color.  We recommended she deepen the brassy tone to achieve a rich chocolate brown.

@karasmarsh introduced herself to SerafinoSays on Twitter.  Through a dialog of tweets, Kara explained her biggest concerns were her hair color, and that she would like to wear her hair longer but felt it would take forever to grow out.  Consequently, she asked SerafinoSays for advice on this and other hair issues.  Naturally we suggested @karasmarch volunteer to be one of our Monday Makeovers.
