Recently SerafinoSays (@SerafinoSays) was asked to participate in a Twitter Party (#hairbykiss) with Kiss Products (@KissProducts). We had an overwhelming response from our wonderful followers. Although we tried to answer as many questions during our hour party, we ended up missing out on 25 questions. SerafinoSays never wants a Hair question unanswered…Giggle! Please continue to keep those questions coming, but in the meantime we hope these answers help with your divine hair styles in 2012!
1. Question: @SerafinoSays is it bad to flat iron your hair after you have colored it?
Answer: While I have never experienced damage using hot tools on newly colored hair, it is always best to ask your personal colorist for their opinion.
2. Question: @SerafinoSays is it OK to use a flat iron with wet hair?
Answer: The short answer is yes, it is OK. Although, I have not found any evidence to support claims made by wet-to-dry flat irons that they perform better or significantly shorten the styling process. You would think applying the heat from the flat iron directly to wet hair would speed up the drying process, but I find just the opposite occurs. It is my experience that wet-to-dry flat irons actually take longer to dry the hair, with inconsistent styling results. If you do use wet-to-0dry flt irons then be certain to use heat protectant products to protect the hair.
3. Question: @SerafinoSays at 420 degrees does an iron burn the hair?
Answer: Operating a flat iron at, or near, the manufacturer’s maximum temperature setting is not the biggest problem for your hair. Traditional flat irons consist of metal or ionic plates that can crush the hair’s cuticle and cause dry, brittle hair. The Kiss Silicone Protextion flat iron uses ceramic plates for even heat distribution, and most important Double Silicone Bars that minimizes your hairs contact with the plates. Therefore, at any temperature setting your hair will retain its moisture resulting in healthy, shiny hair.

6. Question: @SerafinoSays when doing your bangs in the video on @KissProducts website, did you use any styling products besides the iron?
Answer: Yes, I always begin by applying product to my wet hair before blow drying. My latest addiction is Moroccan Oil. I love the way it reduces the drying time, helps to eliminate frizz, and leaves my hair looking shiny.
*Tip: When applying products to hair. Begin by emulsifying products in your hands and fingers. Apply from back of the head to the front of the head. The reason for doing this is most of our hair is located in the back of our head. Beginning at the front of the hair with handful of products might leave the hair weighted down or even greasy.
7. Question: @SerafinoSays to make hair color last longer what do you recommend?
Answer: 3 tips; we suggest using color treated shampoo & conditioner, keeping your hair protected from excess sun, and don’t wash your hair everyday. If you just can’t stand the idea of dirty hair, try a dry shampoo to hold you over.
9. Question: @SerafinoSays what is the best dry shampoo that you recommend?
Answer: Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo $4.50.
11. Question: @SerafinoSays what is your favorite trick when using a hair straighter?
Answer: Take advantage of the hair straightener’s versatility! As an example, a flat iron is the perfect tool to achieve lift & volume. How’s that for an oxymoron! Here is a video explaining the quickest and easiest way to add Volume in less them 5 minutes. Also, you can easily and safely add lift to your hair throughout the day since the Silicone Bars of the Kiss Protexion flat iron protects your hair from heat damage. Simply place the flat iron at the roots of the hair and rotate the iron 180 degrees.
12. Question: @SerafinoSays is it OK to use a flat iron everyday?
Answer: Yes, as long as you are using it properly. 3 rules to follow; make sure to use a heat protectant on the hair, test the temperature of the iron on a small section of hair before completing the entire head, and use an iron that will protect the hair from damage. The reason why I love my Kiss Silicone Protextion flat iron is because of the Silicone Bars that protect the cuticle from being crushed resulting in frizz and split ends.
13. Question: @SerafinoSays Does the thermal protectors makes hair hard?
Answer: Yes, most products can leave hair hard after using a flat iron. But, no worries. If the hair gets hard/stiff after ironing, just use your fingers or a brush to break the bond and soften the hair.
14. Question: @SerafinoSays I wear glasses and end up with ‘side wings’ when I put them on, my hair is feathered back. any suggestions?
Answer: Two Suggestions:
A. Before putting your glasses on you want to spray your fingers with a little hair spray, then tuck your wings behind your hair.
B. Embrace your wings! Sometimes flippy, kicky, textured hair can be alluring and fun. Hair is not always meant to be perfectly quaffed!
15. Question: @SerafinoSays my hair is thick and coarse any tips for softening?
Answer: Try using a deep conditioning treatment once a week or possibly twice depending on the density and texture of the hair. One of my favorites is Kerastase NutriDefense
16. Question: @SerafinoSays does anyone make a sunscreen for hair? I run and get sun color changes on the tips of my hair.
Answer: Try Phyto Plage “l” originale” Protective Beach Spray. Great for hair exposed to external stresses such as chlorine, salt water, and sun. Great for color-treated hair.
Answer: Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated during the brutal winter months…YES, drinking water not only hydrates your body, it also hydrates your hair. You can also try using a smoothing serum like MorrocanOil before the hair is blown dry. Here are a few tips to creating the perfect blow dry.

19. Question: Do color treated shampoos really work?
Answer: It depends on what you mean by “work.” Most color treated shampoos & conditioners will enhance or revitalize richness and depth while adding shine, but they do not add color to the hair. Make sure to read the labels carefully. I recommend if your hair is color treated that you stay clear of a “cleansing” shampoo since it will pull out the color quicker than color treated products. The most important thing when shopping for shampoo & conditioner is to look for products that will add moisturize. This will help to keep hair looking shiny and feeling great.

21. Question: @SerafinoSays thankyou- is there something to stop the tangling- like use more cream, or mousse? I don’t want it greasy #hairbykiss
Answer: To help eliminate the tangles, try Bumble & Bumble Leave In Conditioner. 22. Question: @SerafinoSays How do you create volume and keep it with super long hair @KissProducts #hairbykiss
Answer: Layers, Layers, Layers! This may be difficult to comprehend, but sometimes you need to cut away hair to achieve the look of having fuller hair. So don’t get scissor-shy when your see the shear coming at you. Ask your hair stylist to give you seamless layers. These are layers that are cut into the interior of your hair that allows for movement and most important reduces weight that drags down volume. And a good layering cut should be transparent and will not look choppy. The layers will create movement therefore creating the illusion of more volume. Here are some great tips on how to consult with your stylist.
23. Question: @SerafinoSays Any tips on preventing cowlicks in the morning?
Answer: You have two choices, love it or hate it. If you are a lover, then you have embraced the added volume a cowlick naturally provides. If you are a hater, then grab your comb & blow dryer and begin by wetting the cowlick. Next you continually alternate the direction of your combing over the cowlickwhile drying the hair. The alternating movement of the comb combined with the gradual heating from the blow dryer will flatten the cowlick down.
24. Question: @SerafinoSays what is the best way to comb your hair when its wet?
Answer: Combing hair wet is perfectly acceptable, as long as you take the time to gradually comb through small sections at a time. Sectional combing assures that you do not tear away at unwanted knots. Once sections have been eliminated of small knots, then comb the entire head from front to back. Try using one of my favorites the Cricket Pro 30
