“LocalSpotter Interview”

Written by: Kristan Serafino

It’s always a thrill to see your name in print, with the possible exception of a bill.  In most cases, my name is affiliated with a quote on a hair care tip from any number of beauty, fashion or lifestyle publications.  I can also be called on to write product review, Red Carpet commentary, or even a “how-to” piece for an upcoming beauty story in a magazine.

But when LocalSpotter came a knockin’ asking to conduct an interview about little ol’ me I thought I would faint with excitement.  I get so wrapped up in my everyday life that I stop to think that anyone would be interested.  I mean I absolutely love what I do, but I never assume others will share in my enthusiasm.

LocalSpotter is a melting pot of urban fashion, beauty and lifestyle topics for cosmopolitan women.  They aspire to connect their readers to genuine, creative and stylish discoveries.  LocalSpotter assigned the highly accomplished and entertaining writer Lorna Umprhey to conduct the interview.  You may have seen Lorna during various Red Carpet events.  Lorna came to New York City for the interview where we spent nearly two hours in conversation intermixed with many giggles.

I want to thank Lorna for such a wonderful experience and incredible article.   I must admit I am still blushing!

Make sure to check out the Link to the LocalSpotter interview with Kristan Serafino!

“10 Hair & Grooming Products A Man Must Own”

Written by: Kristan Serafino

If you haven’t noticed, men’s grooming products have gone mainstream.  Not in the way the men’s grooming market was fabricated in the late 1990’s, which was little more than a marketing fad under an unflattering label; metro-sexual.  Men from all walks of life and ethnicity are adapting a grooming regimen as part of their daily lifestyle.

The metro-sexual age had a narcissistic air about it.  Not this time around.  Today’s evolving men’s grooming market is driven by neither insecurity nor inadequacy.  It is about accessing the growing categories of technologically advanced health and personal hygiene products.

I am fortunate to share men’s grooming tips and techniques with some of the most rugged male role models such as celebrities I have work with like Matthew McConaughey, Jason Statham, Mikhail Baryshnikov and athletes Henrik Lundqvist,  John McEnroe and more.

PS.  The Covers in this post were styled by me…Boy do I love my job….Giggle-Giggle!

“Monday Makeover With @IsaveEVERYDAY”

Written by Kristan Serafino

It’s always fun when a friend asks you for a hair suggestion.  Of course its flattering a friend would place her trust in your counsel, but it doesn’t come without a heap of self-imposed pressure to be perfect.  It was ISaveA2Z and her new blog TheRepoWoman who is our good friend that sent us the direct Facebook message asking what we suggest for her hair.  Although @IsaveEVERYDAY was probably looking for a brief direct message back, we thought differently!  She was a perfect candidate for our “Monday Makeover”.

Before SerafinoSays can recommend an alternative hairstyle we need to understand the personality behind our lovely TheRepoWoman.  SerafinoSays believes everyone falls in one of three categories;

  • Whisper: This means you want a trim on your ends and keeping your color as close to your existing hair color.  You look the same as when you walked in the salon except your hair feels healthy and shiny.
  • Talker: You go back to the office and people notice your new style but it’s a style that is not too dramatic that they don’t recognize who you are.  An example could be you keep your length and add shorter layers or your sweeping fringe is now just above your eyebrows.
  • Shouter: Heads are turning when you enter the room.  You have just cut your one length hair into a pixie cut.  You walked in a blonde and you are going home a red.

The selection starts with the Inquisition process, the Diagnosis and our Hair Solution. Let’s see what’s in store for @IsaveEVERYDAY…. Read more

“Coming Full Circle With Coco Chanel”

Written by: Kristan Serafino

“To complete a cycle of transition, returning to where one started after gaining experience or exploring other things.”  What better phrase defines the cyclical nature the fashion and beauty industry?  Throughout time styles have come and gone…then come back again with a contemporary twirl.

Let’s take a look at the classic “bob” hairstyle as an example.  It is commonly believed the bob was created in 1915 by a ballroom famous dancer Irene Castle.  By 1920 it was introduced to global style influencer’s by fashion designer Coco Chanel and actress Clara Bow.

Here are some of the subtle and not so subtle reinventions of the classic bob.
